When it comes to childproofing, many parents overlook the various entryways in their homes, but these areas can present serious safety concerns if not carefully considered. To ensure that your family remains healthy, happy, and injury-free, keep the following tips in mind:

  • Sweep or vacuum often to remove hazards like pebbles, small sticks, and even glass that can easily be tracked in from outside

  • Secure all wires and cords, such as those from drapes or blinds, high up and out of reach

  • Always keep doors to the outside securely locked

  • Consider placing locks higher up so they cannot be easily accessed, or install multi-point locking systems that secure the door in several different spots

  • Install window guards on screen doors

  • Keep entryways well-lit, and immediately replace any bulbs that are no longer working

This blog post is part of a nine part series on Childproofing Your Home and has been adapted from the book The Ultimate Guide to Home Safety for Kids.
